Heat-sealed Overlap Splice
This is the standard splice for most applications. Overlap splices normally 90 degree, 60 degree or 45 degree, are also commonly used since they are more flexible when running on smaller diameter rollers. Standard overlap splices are 25mm.
Heat-sealed Butt Splice
In this splice the ends are butted and joined by sealing a strip of reinforcing fabric under the butted ends. Butt splices provide the smoothest belt surface at the joint and eliminate the step-down surface which is characteristic of the overlap splice. Standard butt splices are 90 degree but also available at other angles.
This mechanical splice is constructed with metal alligator lacing through which a pin is placed to complete the splice. This provides a belt which can be easily assembled on the machine on site.
Fabric Pin Splice
This soft seal splice is similar to the alligator splice but completely eliminates the metal clip. It uses a PTFE Kevlar material with a special pin for joining. It is typically employed in microwave ovens and equipment.
Other splice styles are available for specialty requirements. Examples are scarfed splice, off-set laminated splice [for low or no mark off] and kevlarloop splice for high porosity requirements.
Heat-sealed fabric flaps are also employed to cover alligator splices so the metal lacing will not contact products conveyed on the machines.
Taconic belts can be supplied with strips of heat-sealed fabric on one or both edges. This reinforcement serves a dual purpose; it reduces fraying of belt edges which rub on guiding rollers and it also provides the strongest possible anchor for guiding pins, dot fasteners and grommets. Edge reinforcement is standard for belts with pins or grommets and for open-weave belts. It consists of 25mm wide fabric strip heat-sealed to one or both edges of the belt. These edge strips can also be sewn for extra strength.
